Experimenting with ActivityPub

Now I’m back to blogging on Worpress, I’ve starting experimenting with ActivityPub. I’ve noticed a few things that could be improved in the way ActivityPub posts to subscribers feeds in the Fediverse. I’ve only seen the results on Mastodon, since this is the only other platform I use.

In the Post-Content section of ActivityPub’s settings, I currently use

<p><strong>[ap_title]</strong></p>

[ap_excerpt]

<p>[ap_shortlink type="html"]</p>

<p>[ap_hashtags]</p>

This produces a post on Mastodon that includes two links to my blog. It also doesn’t include a space between the ‘Continue reading’ text and the title of the post. I’ve changed my Post-Content settings to the following to try to improve this

<p><strong> [ap_title]</strong></p>

[ap_excerpt]

<p>[ap_hashtags]</p>

Note the space in the ap_title section, the ap_shortlink section has also been removed. It remains to be seen if these changes will work.

I’ve since settled on the following, which seems to work quite well.

<p><strong>[ap_title]</strong></p>

[ap_excerpt]

[ap_hashtags]

[ap_shortlink type="html"]

I’m sure there will be a lot more experimenting with ActivityPub before I get it right
